Description of Services

St. Mary's Candelight Concerts
PDF Print E-mail

It is with great pleasure that, on behalf of the music ministry at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin, I announce the 2012–2013 season of Candlelight Concerts. Established in 1978, this series has become an important part of the spiritual life of St. Mary’s and our outreach to the community.

Your support is vital!

Thanks to the generosity of our Friends of Music, we have been able to offer these events without charging admission, asking only for a free-will offering.

Our Friends of Music also help to provide guest instrumentalists for our Christmas and Easter Services.

I invite you to become a Friend of Music for the 2012–2013 season. Building on the wonderful foundation laid in years past we are delighted to offer a stimulating series of concerts ranging from choral music to Cuban jazz; from Old World chamber music to contemporary Americana.

All gifts, great and small, nurture this ministry. Please give what you can. Your tax-deductible contribution, over and above your pledged support to the parish, will help ensure the continued success of this series. Contributions may be sent to the Parish Office, payable to Friends of Music.

Thank you for your support.

Amy BlackAmy Black is a Boston-based singer/songwriter with storytelling and Southern tradition in her blood. She’s quickly become one of the most sought after acts on the East Coast, sharing stages with stars including Chris Isaak, The Courtyard Hounds, Suzy Boggus, and Rodney Crowell. No Depression wrote, her “folk-styled country voice suggests bits of Mary Chapin Carpenter, edged by the blues of Bonnie Raitt and a hint of Jennifer Nettle’s sass” and “she has a smooth, seductive sound that commands attention.” The Boston Herald wrote that her “stunning debut” of original music on her album One Time brims with “beautifully imagined sound and soul."
