Getting Involved in St. Mary's Community
We welcome you to membership in our church. Together we serve Christ, worshipping as one body, though we are a community of people from diverse backgrounds and denominations. Please join us at one of our services. Stop by the welcome desk to fill out a name badge and talk to our greeters. You may also call the church office at 921-3665 to be put in touch with someone who can address your specific questions and concerns.

2007 Retreat at Bishop's Ranch

  • THE LAYING ON OF HANDS service continues following the 9 and 11 a.m. services.
  • PRAYER GROUP initiated by Gloria is for parishioners to offer prayers for themselves or friends and relatives. The names and request for prayer are confidential and are offered up in silent prayer. Blue prayer cards are available in each pew.
  • LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY, started at St. Mary's approximately ten years ago, trains parishioners to administer communion to St. Mary's homebound. This ministry will be open to new parishioners for training in the near future.
  • NURSING HOME MINISTRY was initiated at St. Mary's in the late 1980's.  Beverly Barrows is coordinator of this ministry at the Golden Gate Nursing Home the fourth Sunday of each month at 1 PM.  Parishioners are invited to participate; children and their pets are welcome too!  The service takes about one-half hour and includes communion and singing.
  • ALTAR GUILD keeps the church beautiful for all the services.  The standard commitment is once a month for 90 minutes on a Saturday morning and then again on Sunday morning for about 30 minutes.  A workshop with Mother Beth in the near future for new and current members to better understand the spiritual and physical aspects of Altar Guild work.  If you are interested, please contact the clergy or Erika Coughlan.
  • DAUGHTERS OF THE KING is an order for women of the Episcopal Church and churches within the historic Episcopate, and was organized in 1885. Every Daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and personal ministry, dedicated to the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish. Click for more information

Christian Community:  If you would like to know more about the fabulous retreat at the Bishop's ranch in May, want to see a new event started, or want to help with one of the church's social activities, contact Lisa Carey or Steven Currier.

Christian Formation:  If you would have an idea for a speaker to invite to the church, or a class after church, contact Marisa Bracoloni and Joe Jennings about adult education.  If you would like to help with the coordination of the Sunday School, or have ideas to improve, add or subtract from the general Sunday School program, contact Liz Parkinson or Belle McBride.

Communications:  If you have some ideas or suggestions for communications, contact the office.  Ideas for the Cow Hollow Church News, thoughts on the SMV web site, other ways of putting forth St. Mary's news, or the ability to assist with the mailing of the newsletter should be coordinated through the office.  The church is now looking for someone with 3 hours once a month to help print the popular Cow Hollow News.  You can contact the office (415) 921-3665 X302 in the church office to volunteer.

Foyer Groups: New to St. Mary's! Want to get to know others better.  Foyer groups of 8 to 10 people meet once a month or so for food and conversation. Click here to sign up for Foyer Groups

Membership Growth:  Tim and Ilia Smith head our Membership Growth Committee.  If you are new in church and want to meet other members, contact the office. Newcomer events are held throughout the year.

Outreach:  Tom Robertson is the person to talk with about our many community Outreach activities.  Sign up for an event, propose new ideas, attend a committee meeting.  These activities give you a chance to meet other parishioners, while helping others in our community.

Pastoral Care: If you know of someone in the parish who needs help through a hard patch, a ride to the grocery store, a pick-up at the pharmacy, dinner delivered for a couple of nights because of an illness, or if you need this help yourself, then be sure to call the office. Stephanie Lehman and Lisa Vance are co-chairs.

Please call the parish for more information.  The phone number is 415 921-3665 or office@smvsf.org. Click here for more details on Parish Council Committees and how to become involved.
