2008 Rosebud Reservation Summer Mission Trip Who:
When: Friday, June 13 – Sunday, June 22
Where: Rosebud Lakota Sioux Reservation in south central South Dakota,
near Rapid City, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wounded Knee Battle Site, Badlands National Park
Why: To foster reconciliation with the historically mistreated and endemically poor Lakota people at Rosebud by helping to mend their homes, distributing food and clothes, helping to take care of small children, helping to entertain and serve the elderly, and by participating in cultural exchange opportunities, including dance festivals, worship services and shared meals. We will be: Taking care of and playing with small children at the Spotted Tail Crisis Center while their parents receive court-ordered classes in parenting and/or rehab intervention and/or other types of therapy or treatment. Serving meals, and distributing food and clothing to needy families at the Rosebud Co-op.Working with individual families to physically rehab their homes, including painting and repairing windows, roofs, floors.
