Season of Creation

St. Mary's Season of Creation September 2023
Sunday, October 1 marks the culmination of the Season of Creation when St. Mary’s will commemorate the Feast of St, Francis, the patron saint of animals, the environment and the namesake of our city and St. Clare of Assisi, his apostle.
Both humans and their pets or stuffed animals are welcome at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. as we offer gratitude for their companionship and bestow a special individual blessing on each pet or stuffed animal. The 8:00 a.m. service will remain animal-free for those with allergies or who would rather give thanks for the creatures of the earth while those creatures dwell elsewhere in God’s vast creation.
St. Mary’s celebrates the Season of Creation each Sunday in September joining congregations from Episcopal Dioceses across the country in this international effort for prayer and action for climate justice and an end to environmental racism and ecological destruction. As the people of God, it is imperative that we “pray, learn, act, advocate and bless”-- the themes of each Sunday during Creation Season--on behalf of all creation as part of that mighty river of peace and justice.
