Have a Heart for Gubbio

Lent is here and with it the Sunday school's outreach project to benefit the Gubbio Project at St. John's in the Mission District. As they serve scores of unhoused people every day, provide 'sacred sleep' in the church sanctuary and a wide variety of services and supplies, the Gubbio Project is always in need of donations of blankets, socks, healthful snack food, and hygiene items.
Enter St. Mary's Sunday school kids. This coming Sunday at the Shrove Sunday pancake breakfast, they'll be riffing on our Advent Giving Tree with a Have A Heart for Gubbio Clothesline adorned with hand-decorated hearts and a request for a small contribution like toothpaste and a toothbrush, cough drops, hand sanitizer, a couple of pairs of socks, a jar of peanut butter, a light blanket, that sort of thing. Easy for us, good and important items for the unhoused or needy people in our own city.
Starting this Sunday February 19th and continuing through Lent, we hope you'll Have A Heart for Gubbio and live out our Christian commitment to remembering and caring for the sick, the hungry and the needy. A big bright collection basket will be the narthex all through Lent, and we hope you'll help us keep it filled. Additionally, the Sunday school children will keep a running tally of the donated items and the number of people served, so watch this space for our progress!
