Happy Anniversary Marcony

marcony_389

One year ago, May 23, 2019, Marcony was granted asylum, was released from Adelanto Detention Center, and moved to San Francisco. Since then, Marcony has become a part of Anne Williams’ family and part of St. Mary’s family. He also has obtained a driver’s license, a credit card, and all of the legal documents that can lead eventually to citizenship. He is employed in a local market, attends classes at The College of Marin, and supports the living situation and education of his teenage brother and sister in Guatemala. He turned 21 last July. He has a girlfriend. Marcony has enriched the lives of all of us at St. Mary’s, including as a beloved member of our Food Bank home delivery team.

However, as independent, resourceful, and responsible as he is, Maracony still needs our help. While he is sending most of his earnings to his brother and sister, he has incurred the expense two emergency root canal procedures. Many of us in St. Mary’s already have contributed to paying this unforeseen and significant debt. But he still has $300 due. Please join in supporting this young man who has experienced more evil in his short life than anyone should ever have to suffer. Make your tax deductible contribution on St. Mary’s by clicking this link: CLICK HERE. Be sure to note that you want your contribution to go to the Justice Ministry Asylum Fund. This will ensure that your contribution is credited correctly.

In case you don’t remember, as a 16-year old in Guatemala, Marcony watched as members of a drug gang murdered his mother and aunt and wounded his year-old niece. He testified in court against the murderers, who were convicted but released in less than three years. When they threatened Marcony, he had no alternative but to flee his home. He worked his way through Mexico and was placed in ICE detention when he entered the United States to seek asylum. Faith in Action Bay Area (FIABA) invited a St. Mary’s team to secure an attorney and work locally and internationally to secure Marcony’s release and asylum. A year ago, Anne Williams and David Crosson picked him up in Adelanto and brought him home to the Bay. He has been a blessing in our lives ever since.

Happy Anniversary, Marcony.
