Announcing Staff Transition: The Rev. Marguerite Judson
Greetings St. Mary’s Community,
The last 14 months have been a whirlwind of change and uncertainty, and yet through it all the Holy Spirit has been present, guiding and sustaining us along the way. If anything, the last year has confirmed that the only constant in life, besides God, is change.
I write to inform you that The Rev. Marguerite Judson will be concluding her ministry at St. Mary’s on June 27th, 2021. In her time among us, Rev. Marguerite has embodied Christ’s steady grace in her sermons, pastoral care, and her shepherding of ministry. Working with many faithful members of the parish, aspects of Christian Formation, Parish Life, and Evangelism have seen new and meaningful growth and opportunity. I will miss her wisdom and experience, and I am thankful for her partnership in discerning God’s will and way in the life of St. Mary’s.
Here are some words from Rev. Marguerite:
I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve Christ with you, in the community of St. Mary the Virgin, since the fall of 2018. These three years have been times of tumultuous change during the pandemic and also a time of healing and stability in our community. The last 18 months have also been a surprising journey for me into medical challenges which now require my attention. These are not life-threatening conditions, but they are life-changing.
I deeply appreciate the support which The Rev. David Erickson has offered as I navigated unexpected transitions out of my full-time ministry at St. Mary’s – ministry which has been such a source of joy and delight. My current plan is to put time and energy into my own health and to continue my ordained ministry as an Assisting Priest at All Souls, Berkeley.
I will miss you and I am thankful we share this journey together, seeking and serving Christ in all persons as we, like our namesake Mary the God-bearer, bring Christ’s love into the world.
We will celebrate Rev. Marguerite’s ministry among us, virtually, on Sunday, June 20th. On June 27th, during our mid-year check in, we will thank her one last time for her ministry to us as Associate Rector.
Going forward, St. Mary’s will spend a year in discernment for the next full time Associate Rector. We hope to advertise the position early in 2022 with the hope of calling our next priest by the Fall of 2022. During this interim period, Mike Stafford has accepted the position of Interim Associate Minister. Mike is already of incredible service to God’s work at St. Mary’s as our youth minister and is involved in Christian Formation, Parish Life, and Justice Ministry. I will share specifics of his role as interim in the near future.
For now, please pray for Rev. Marguerite and her journey ahead. Feel free to reach out to her and thank her for her time with us in ministry.
Blessings, Grace, and Peace,
Rev. David Erickson
