St. Mary's Reflection: Eric Choate, Director of Music
My New Year's resolution is to take more breaks and go on more walks. As a Protestant from the Midwest, I have a heavy-duty complex about work ethic and guilt. I have trouble unwinding at the end of the day, knowing that there are still emails to return, music to plan, music to learn, and a long list of administrative tasks. It takes a great deal of intentionality on my part to sign off for the day (or even for a break) if there is more to be done. My theme this year is refilling my proverbial cup. Walking is my favorite activity. It helps me recharge my creativity and forces me to spend time away from my computer, so I have set my intention to take more walks this year. This has been coupled with unbelievable sunsets and gorgeous weather, a reminder of God's majesty and splendor. I have found great peace in my walks, and encourage the similarly inclined to make this a priority in your life. I wish you all peace and comfort with renewed intentions this year!
