May you find here, by the Grace of God, that which fills your soul – Nancy Clothier
When I began attending St. Mary’s I was going through some personal difficulties. When I walked into the courtyard, there was a kiosk with information posted on events happening in the parish. On one of the notes was the saying, “May you find here by the grace of God, that which feeds your soul.” That spoke to me. I attended services for a while not knowing anyone. I did realize that to be part of this community and probably any community, I would need to get involved. I started volunteering with outreach, preparing meals and serving at St. Anthony’s. I attended many of the Adult Education series and found those were feeding my soul.
I really felt moved by the Sacred Ground Series. The material and discussions helped me recognize and acknowledge my white privilege. I recognized the Grace of God was filling my soul.
I remember a sermon by one of the priests who said, “everyone here wishes you the best.” I agreed and that was very comforting. Even if they didn’t know me, or I didn’t know them, we wanted the best for each other.
I recently attended a luncheon of 10 women who are celebrating their 80th birthdays in 2022. My participation in the Babes of 42 has been God’s grace feeding my soul. I have been involved in many things over the years, website, Tidings, Pastoral Care, Walking Group, Altar Guild, Adult Education, Bible Study, and now serving on the vestry and through all of this, I feel by the Grace of God, I have found that which feeds my soul.
