Every Sunday when I do the announcements, I often say something to the effect of, "We are a robust and joyous community with lots going on!" This Sunday is certainly no different; in fact, it celebrates so much of the beauty, joy, and grace that make up who we are.
This Sunday, we have the delightful voices of our youth who went on their mission trip this summer preaching at all three services. They will share stories of experiencing God's grace as instruments of God's justice, love, and mercy in the world. This is always a highlight of our year, and I'm so very grateful that it is part of our common rhythm here at St. Mary's.
And if that wasn't joyous enough, this Sunday is also our Ministry Celebration Sunday! In the courtyard after all services, tables will be set up and various ministries will share their stories of how they live into Christ's grace and love through tangible acts of service to our community, to our church, and beyond. I'm certain that many of us will participate at the tables as representatives of these ministries, and I hope all of us take a moment to walk around the courtyard to see just how vibrant and dynamic the life of St. Mary's truly is. Perhaps the Holy Spirit will lead you to inquire more about a certain ministry and maybe even get involved, experiencing that grace and love in your life as well.
Jesus, in our Gospel this coming Sunday, gives us a poignant story about two sons whose father asked them to go do his work in the vineyard. One says no but goes, while the other says yes but does not. It is such a joy to be part of a community where so many say "yes" and are truly willing to be of service to God's grace.
It is a great honor, joy, and delight to be part of a community that is so alive, so grace-filled, and so generous. I hope you will join us this Sunday in celebrating all that God is doing in our midst.
