Holy Baptism is one of the primary sacraments of the Episcopal Church. Through full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit, we become members of Christ's Body, the Church.

Baptism is appropriate at any age.

Baptism is a community event. When the congregation witnesses the vows, they commit to support the newly baptized in their life in Christ. Although membership at St. Mary's is not required, candidates are encouraged to be connected to a worshipping community.

Sponsors

Each candidate for Holy Baptism is sponsored by one or more baptized persons. Sponsors of infants, commonly called godparents, make promises in their own names and take vows on behalf of their candidates. Sponsors do not need to be Episcopalians, but must be baptized Christians.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held the day before each baptism (typically Saturday). The presiding priest will provide instructions to candidates, parents, and sponsors at that time.

There is no fee for Holy Baptism.
