Liz was born in Paris, grew up in New York City, graduated from Brown University and has now lived in San Francisco for longer than she lived on the East Coast. As a lifelong Episcopalian, she wanted to be married in the Episcopal church and found St. Mary’s when she and her husband, John Paxton, were looking for a church to be married in 35 years ago. Their daughter Izzy was baptized at St. Mary’s and subsequently attended Sunday School, Youth Group, multiple Mission Trips and was very active in the youth acolyte program. Liz’s involvement in St. Mary’s ran deep, and included serving on a search committee and a previous term on the Vestry. She served as Junior Warden in 2015-2016.
Liz’s professional career has been in the financial services industry, most recently with The Humphreys Group for the past 18+ years. She served as Director of Operations and managed client services, Compliance, IT and HR for the firm. At the end of 2024 Liz retired, and is eager to embrace a different pace of life. She is looking forward to spending more time with family and friends, and engaging with new and different activities
Her past volunteer activities focused on Izzy’s schools, as well as many years with The Junior League of San Francisco including several terms on the Board. Liz is looking forward to finding new volunteer opportunities that spark her passion in retirement. After stepping back from her involvement at St. Mary’s for several years – but still continuing to attend the 9:00am service – Liz is excited about the opportunity to reengage on a deeper level. The community and liturgy of St. Mary’s have always been very important to her.
