How to Get Involved
Each ministry below has its own contact person who can answer your questions and help you get started. Most roles require minimal commitment and include a brief orientation before you begin. No prior experience is necessary.
Altar Guild members work behind the scenes to prepare the church for worship and sacramental celebrations. Teams rotate one weekend per month, with a one-hour commitment on Saturday and a half-hour after a Sunday service. It is a ministry of warmth, hospitality, and teamwork that builds relationships across generations.
Chalice Bearers administer the chalice during Communion, read lessons and the Prayers of the People at the 8:00 a.m. service, and carry the cross and torches in procession at the 11:00 a.m. service. Scheduling is flexible. One training session is provided before you begin.
Readers serve at the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services, reading the appointed Sunday lessons from the Old and New Testament. Prayer leaders lead the Prayers of the People. No prior experience needed. Training is arranged before you start.
Ushers welcome newcomers and regular worshippers as they arrive, distribute bulletins, and help the service run smoothly. It is a minimal commitment of once per month at the service of your choice and a wonderful way to meet people and serve the community.

Eucharistic Visitors bring the Word of God and Holy Communion to those who are homebound or temporarily unable to attend services. Training is provided through a Diocesan workshop and individual instruction at St. Mary's.
