The fourth Tuesday of every month, St. Mary’s parishioners join Congregation Sherith Israel and others from the Bay Area in accompanying migrants as they wait for mandatory check-ins and other processing at ICE offices, 630 Sansome, San Francisco. This is not a protest or a political action. It is a powerful ministry of presence with people who are obeying the law, meeting their legal requirements, but can’t really be sure that they will not be detained while doing so. Sometimes these people will be waiting outside for hours before being admitted into the building. We offer support, share legal references, bring shacks and drink, and even play tick-tack-toe on the sidewalk with the children. If you want to join us, contact Greer Hopkins, greerhop@comcast.net.
